Albums I Played On in 2022
I’m updating the discography page on my website in reverse chronological order. Here’s a recap of the 11 albums I played on that were released in 2022.
How Is It That I Should Look At The Stars
by The Weather Station
We recorded this album over the last 3 days before the first big lockdown in Toronto, March of 2020. Watch us play the whole album outside on Ward’s Island (Toronto) one freezing January day.
Big Hurt Boy
by Donovan Woods
Josh Van Tassel (drums), Mark McIntyre (bass), Robbie Grunwald (keys) and I laid down the foundation for this one at Union Sound Company, with Donovan and James Bunton at the helm.
Moody31
by Lydia Persaud
This one is really special. Lydia and I were hunkered down together in the early days of the pandemic, playing music at home, quietly, acoustically. I got into playing nylon string guitar during that time, and it seemed to compliment her baritone ukulele really well. Aside from some electric guitar on the opening track, Good For Us, I played all nylon string guitar on the album.
Habitapes Vol.1
by Chase Bliss Records
The folks at Chase Bliss created more than an effects pedal with Habit. You could use it purely as an effect, but it’s most interesting as a writing tool. All of the pieces recorded for this compilation were made using only the Habit pedal, without any overdubs or editing. I did the opening track, Texus Redux.
That Was You And Me
by Fortunate Ones
This was an in-studio session (Dream Date Studio) at a time when most sessions were being done remotely. I played some lap steel on a few tracks, while Dean Drouillard covered most of the guitar parts.
Adjustments
by Noah Reid
Recorded this one over a few days in December 2020 at Union Sound Company. For the bed tracks, we recorded live off the floor with Josh Van Tassel (drums), Devon Henderson (bass), Adrian Cook (piano, pedal steel, synth), Matthew Bailey (electric guitar). I mostly played electric guitar, but also lap steel and a bit of acoustic guitar.
Stipple
by Knobs
I love this one. Julia Hambelton, Dafydd Hughes, Andrew Downing and I recorded in our chamber group configuration (clarinet, Wurlitzer, cello and lap steel) along to beautiful guitar loops by Knobs.
Leaving Ashwood
by Whitney Fenimore
Whitney flew in from Nashville to record this one with James Bunton at the helm and on the drums, with Mark McIntyre on bass and myself on guitars and lap steel.
Imposter Syndrome
by Barbra Lica
This album features co-productions with 5 different artists, including Joel Visentin, James Bryan, Drew Jurecka, and Nicholas Tateishi. I produced one track, “Take Care Of You,” and also added some guitar to “Girls Like Me.”
At Scaramouche
by Shabason & Krgovich
I added some lap steel to a track called “In The Middle Of The Day,” which also includes some of my favourite players: Kieran Adams (drums), Chris A Cummings (vocals), Michael Davidson (vibraphone), Bram Gielen (bass, keys) and Thom Gill (guitar, piano).
Stuff We All Get
by Christine Fellows
This is the second album of Christine Fellows that I’ve been lucky enough to play on since we met through our mutual friend, Jason Tait. Check out the 13 stop motion music videos that she made for the album!
